How To: Foundry Hex Map in Dungeondraft
resources needed: Dungeondraft, Foundry VTT, this asset -> https://cartographyassets.com/assets/5577/hex-grid-patterns/
this is made with a 40 wide and 30 high map in mind, but I'm pretty sure that due to tessellation you should be able to adjust this for any map size.
hex rows:
- Make a 40 x 26 tile map; you can make this into a template to avoid manual input for every map.
- Navigate to Design Tab > Pattern Shape Tool > Hex Rows Pattern.
- Place pattern over entire map, and make your map as desired; you don't need the pattern but it helps to keep things in bounds of the tiles for when you import.
- Export the map at 200 ppi with grid disabled. If you used the pattern, I recommend deleting it before exporting for aesthetics.
- Open a new scene in Foundry, and enter Scene Configuration.
- Import the image, and under Grid Type, select Hexagonal Rows - Odd. Enter the Grid Configuration Tool via the button next to the grid dropdown.
- Set Background Image Scale to 0.433, Grid Size to 100, and Grid Offset Position to X: -10 and Y: 0
- You should now have your map aligned nearly perfectly!
hex columns:
- Make a 35 x 30 tile map; you can make this into a template to avoid manual input for every map.
- Navigate to Design Tab > Pattern Shape Tool > Hex Columns Pattern.
- Place pattern over entire map, and make your map as desired; you don't need the pattern but it helps to keep things in bounds of the tiles for when you import.
